What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is one of the oldest therapeutic techniques known to man. It is a completely natural occurring state of mind in which we experience a light or deep relaxation combined with a state of heightened awareness. An example of this is daydreaming, where the mind is relaxed, focused and time can pass very quickly accompanied by wonderful feelings of deep relaxation of both mind and body. In 1955, the British Medical Association endorsed the use of hypnosis in medical school training. Since this endorsement hypnosis has been recognised for the treatment and relief of a variety of physical and psychological symptoms.
What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a therapy which employs the use of hypnosis and is based on the premise that the mind and body do not work in isolation. By utilising this natural trance state, it enables the client to enlist the help of the unconscious mind to bring about therapeutic change to help with a wide range of physical and emotional problems. The client’s unconscious mind can be 'reprogrammed' to change negative behaviour and is also very effective in the treatment of phobias, panic attacks and also reduce stress and alleviate pain.
Utilising hypnosis in a therapeutic setting, is an advanced, proven technique for modifying existing thought processes and behaviours. By utilising an 'hypnotic trance', which is characterised by enhanced focus and relaxation, a direct link with the unconscious mind is created, thus enabling changes in behaviour or responses.
Is Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy safe?
Hypnosis is a completely safe and natural if performed by an experienced and fully trained hypnotherapist. During the process the client remains fully in control at all times and will not be made to do or say anything that is against their wishes or belief system. The client is usually aware of their surroundings and can hear everything happening around them, including the hypnotherapist's voice. Sometimes stage hypnotism and hypnotherapy are confused. The two are completely different, like chalk and cheese! Stage Hypnotism is based around the idea of entertainment, The hypnotist finds members of the crowd which are the most suggestible. The suggestible volunteer willingly volunteers to get up on stage and expects to me made to do certain acts such to ensure the crowd laughs and enjoys themselves. The volunteer can not made to do anything which goes against his or hers morals and values.
I had hypnotherapy before but all they did was relax me - how do you work different?
"Hypnotherapy" such as this isn't really hypnotherapy it's more hypnosis as there is no therapy invovled. Hypnosis such as this makes you feel relaxed and perhaps more confident but it's only for a limited period as the underlying issues were not address.
Hypnotherapy is a combination of two words hypnosis and therapy, and this is how Linda works usually working on a deep level. Utilising hypnosis and therapy to bring about an awareness for you of why you do and behave as you do and from here you may create long-lasting change.
