Welcome to the Linda Connors London Hypnotherapy web page for the fear of being sick / vomiting which is also known as emetophobia.

With over 5 years experience as a therapist and hypnotherapist, Linda has helped many people overcome emetophobia and fear of being sick.

Emetophobia is a an unwarranted fear of being sick or vomiting and is a very common phobia.  Linda receives many enquiries from people seeking help from emetophobia, some have tried CBT, clincal hypnosis, therapy, pure hypnoanalysis, with little or no relief.

Linda's approach is unique as although she encompasses hypnosis, therapy, CBT, NLP into the session, what is unique is that she also works with the mind and body connection.  As emetophobia is a strong reaction that is felt within the body it's important to work with the body as well the mind and unconscious mind.

When working with emetophobia Linda works on different levels, such as helping you to create awareness and understanding with fear of being sick, working and helping you to process anxiety and panic you may feel, as well as giving you wonderful tools to use in your life to help manage and overcome anxiety and panic associated with emetophobia.

Being sick phobia

Emetophobia impacts people in many different ways, although it generally impacts more women than men.  Most emetophobics fear vomiting themselves, while a few others fear seeing someone else do it. Emetophobics are very careful what to eat, worry about being sick, putting off becoming a mother for fear of morning sickness, or sick children, to becoming completely housebound.

The actual phobic reaction manifests itself in different ways, such as some emetophobics experience it all all the time in their life, and others as a result of a specific event, or situation.

The impact of emetophobia / fear of  being sick

The fear of being ill and the impact and symptoms of Emetophobia varies on how it affects each person and listed below are some common reactions, emotions, avoidance, which Emeotphobics may face on a day by day basis:

Avoiding certain situations where there is sickness, being along with small children for fear they may be sick.  Social life is impacted by avoiding parties, dinner parties or social gathering in case some one is sick, avoid drinking and other drinking, avoid certain foods, restaurants, travelling due to travel sickness and medication due to side effects of being sick.

If an emetophobic encounters someone who is sick or ill, they may have a panic attack, feel sick themselves, remove themselves very quickly from the situation, or unable to help the person who is sick.

Linda receives many enquiries about emotophobia as it is actually very common, and has worked with many women overcome their fear of being sick, or fear of seeing others sick.

What causes Emotophobia

Most professionals agree that emotophobia is caused by many different things.  The causes can range from a traumatic experience with vomiting usually in childhood, while others do not.  Other experiences during childhood, such as anxious family, seperation, or trauma.

Help for Emotophobia

There are many different treatments for emotophobia, and some of them are focus on what the therapist believes is the cause of the emotophobia.  One popular hypnotherapy treatment is regression, to locate a repressed memory, and once the memory is found than the belief is that the phobic reaction will be released.  This may work for some clients, however it is not normally the case as most the professional opinions is that a fear of sick is developed throughout childhood, from a combination of reasons.

It's important that you find someone who is experienced in a wide range of methods and approaches, and you feel comfortable with the Hypnotherapist, so is able to work with you and who also understands your fear, and how it impacts your life.

Linda Connors Hypnotherapy to help with Emotophobia

Linda Connors is an experienced Hypnotherapist and has worked with many clients who suffered from Emotophobia.  Linda is trained to work in many different approaches, so she is able to work with you.  Linda respects each client as an individual and her approach reflects this - no client is worked with in the same way, some may require regression, others may require healing, others may require emotional release, and so on.

Linda's goal is not to work with you to vomit, but to help you to be free from the anxiety around vomiting.

The work may involve talking therapy and hypnosis to help you understand where the fear originates from.   And in conjuction with this, Linda will also use hypnotherapy tools and techniques to help you manage the anxiety in your day to day life.
